Seven Ways to Dress to Impress This Christmas Day
Christmas Day fashion can be a tricky thing as your day may go from one extreme to another. Whilst it’s cold outside, it’s warm inside, and even though you want to get glam and show off in your sparkiest outfit, you’ll need room for all that Christmas pudding! However you spend your Christmas day, it’s important to look and feel your best - Christmas is to be enjoyed after all! Aside from being both comfortable and practical, you’ll also want your Christmas Day outfit to sparkle and capture some of the festive feel - whether that is with the colors, the feel of the material, the sparkle or the silhouette shape. Read our seven top tips #below for dressing to impress this Christmas Day.1. Comfort DOESN"T Have to Mean Dressing downBeing comfortable is key on Christmas Day as there is always a lot of sitting around and eating to be done, as well as celebrating the festivities! But being comfortable doesn"t have to mean looking drab. Dress up in style with a bandage dress - the stretchy material means you have some ‘give’ after filling up on your Christmas dinner, but the overall sleek #look of the dress gives it an elegant feel - perfect to make you feel special on Christmas Day.2. Add Some Sparkle with AccessoriesChristmas is always about the glitter and glitz, so make sure you don’t forget to add a sparkling touch to your outfit. For a subtle touch of glamour a small pair of diamond earrings can add something special, or if you’re not cooking then a sparkly bracelet can also make the right effect.3. Prepare for the ColdIf your family tradition is to take a post-lunch winter walk (the perfect idea to work off all that Christmas pudding!), or you will be doing some travelling - perhaps to see friends and family in different locations - then you’ll need a warm and stylish winter coat to keep you wrapped up for your journey. Outerwear is no reason not to pull out the stops in the style stakes, so take the lead from one of the statement coats or go for a true winter wonderland feel - a luxurious leather jacket with fur trim.4. Be Nice to Your FeetIf you’re going to be on your feet all day cooking, fetching drinks, or just standing around chatting then think about how your poor feet are going to hold up. A pair of sparkly flats may be a better choice for a hostess rather than your highest heels. However if you are a guest and taking the day very easily then a pair of skyscraper heels may be just the thing to do for… Why not pull out your most breathtaking pair of shoes and show off!5. Use Your FAVORITE FragranceA special #time of year, you might want to make Christmas Day extra special by using your favorite fragrance. By smelling of a scent that reminds you of happy memories and special occasions, you will enjoy your day all the day and have another fantastic memory for the scent to trigger.6. It’s the Perfect Occasion for Statement PiecesWhether it’s a strong statement jacket or a statement accessory such as an eye catching necklace or handbag, Christmas is the ideal #time to take a fashion risk and go all out on THE statement piece. If you are not brave enough to really push the boat out and take a #chance, why not try something quirky like colored tights or oversize jewelry to give the impression you are a bona fide fashionista.7. Christmas Day at Home Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Make a SplashChristmas day is the perfect excuse to wear a fabulous dress, even if you"re just staying at home. Forget the fashion rules of only dressing up to go out - at home surrounded by your loved ones you can still make a big impression. A sparkling floor length gown is sure to turn heads, or attract some #attention with plunging back-line or sheer side or midriff panels. You can never be too dressed up for Christmas!Whatever style you choose to embrace this Christmas Day, make sure that above all else it makes you feel fantastic! Whether you"re looking for a gorgeous top, a luxurious dress, or statement accessories to inject some wow in to those wardrobe staples, feeling and looking great on Christmas Day is easy, whatever you"ve got planned…So enjoy your day, whatever you are wearing and ensure that you are comfortable, warm and looking good for the festivities this year!Written by Vero Milano, a luxury women’s clothing brand who originate from Milano. Seven Ways Choosing the Wrong Roommate Can Cost You

Via Treva Bowdoin
Seven Ways Choosing the Wrong Roommate Can Cost You
You might be eager to find a roommate, but there are several ways choosing the wrong roommate can cost you. Sharing household bills can reduce your expenses. You"ll have more cash to save, and you can use the savings to pay off debt. But if you don"t choose wisely, a roommate can destroy your finances. Here are seven ways choosing the wrong roommate can cost you.1. Your Roommate May Not Earn EnoughThere are several ways choosing the wrong roommate can cost you. And one of these reasons – your roommate may not earn enough #money. When you apply for an apartment, the landlord will ask for proof of income. But what you may not know is that landlords often use your combined income to determine whether you qualify for the apartment. And if you earn significantly more, the landlord may approve the application because your income is enough to cover the rent. But this doesn"t benefit you. If your roommate #signs the lease but discovers that he doesn"t earn enough to cover his share of the expenses, you could end up paying more each month.2. She Spends Bill #Money on FunThen again, maybe your roommate earns enough to cover her share of the bills. However, if she has a spending problem, she might spend a large percentage of her income shopping or on entertainment. And when it"s #time to make the rent payment, she comes up short.3. Doesn"t Respect Your StuffIt"s fun rooming with a friend, but this person might not have respect for your belongings. She may borrow and lose your items, or break #things you purchased for the home. And if this person doesn"t have the cash flow to replace the items, you"ll have to pay the replacement cost.4. Her Bad Credit Can Cost YouIt"s routine for landlords to check credit reports before approving applicants. And unfortunately, if your roommate has bad #credit, your landlord may require a higher security deposit.5. You"re Left to Pay the Rent AloneIt"s important to choose wisely when looking for a #roommate. At the end of the day, you need someone who"s responsible and respects contracts. If you make a wrong choice, your roommate may decide to move out before the end of the #lease. As a result, you"re left to pay the #rent alone each month. This can cripple your finances and make it harder to make ends meet.6. You"re Forced to End the Lease EarlyIf your roommate skips out on the #lease early and you can"t afford the rent by yourself, you"re also forced to move out. And unfortunately, your #landlord may require you and your roommate to pay off the lease balance. If you don"t comply, he can sue for the remaining balance.7. Her Actions Can Hurt Your CreditAnd if you break a lease early and you"re unable to pay off the lease balance, a judgment can appear on your credit report. This negative remark reduces your #credit score, and unfortunately, it becomes difficult to rent another apartment or purchase a house. No matter how eager you are to move into a new place, don"t rush this process. Choosing a roommate takes #time, and you"ll need to select someone who"s responsible and in a financial position to afford the rent. What are other costly mistakes of choosing the wrong roommate?

Seven Places to Visit in Baltimore

Seven Places to Visit in Baltimore

It’s one of the most important ports in the USA but there are tons of great places to visit in Baltimore that aren’t ship related. It’s a great city – period. It certainly loves up to its nickname of “Charm City” but visitors will love its contrary nature. Its nautical past still gives it a grimy, gritty edge, but it is also packed to the brim with modern delights. Check out these places to visit in Baltimore and then book your flight!

1. Johns Hopkins University and Museums

The first research university in the U.S., Johns Hopkins University, is also one of the most popular places to visit in Baltimore. The university itself is a popular medical-tourism destination because of its high quality health care, but it also operates the several museums in the area. Homewood House Museum was built in 1801 from a donation from Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and is a fine example of federalist architecture. The Evergreen Museum and Library is housed in a Gilded Age mansion and holds a collection of rare books and manuscripts along with a fine collection of art. The Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum houses an impressive collection of Roman and ancient #world art.

Seven Smartphone Games to Play at the Airport

Seven Smartphone Games to Play at the Airport
Smartphone games to play at the airport are a great way to pass the time. If you don’t love to shop, don’t want to spend #time in the food court, or the airport hasn’t got anything interesting to do (although some airports are a destination in themselves these days) then your phone is your best buddy for warding off terminal boredom (ha ha – see what I did there?). Download these smartphone games to play at the airport and you’re good to go.1. TapQuiz Maps World EditionPlay it: itunes.apple.comThis is one of the most suitable smartphone games to play at the airport because you can learn about where the planes are heading off to. Maybe it isn’t the most exciting game in the #world, unlike the others on this list, but it sure beats sitting doing nothing at the airport.2. Asteroids GunnerPlay it: itunes.apple.comAsteroids was originally an arcade game released in 1979 in which the player is flying a spaceship traveling the interstellar void while avoiding being reduced to dust by a multitude of meteorites and vile enemies. The asteroids may arise from any side of the display screen. Graphically the Asteroids Gunner app is rather pleasing to the eye. It has nice colors and light effects. It has more than one hundred and fifty waves of enemies in three galaxies. It has three vessels with different features to unlock, and lots of upgrades available. Asteroids Gunner promises countless hours of playing pleasure. It is a nice #app for anybody who feels like a little nostalgia trip, or simply somebody who wishes to kill a few hours.3. Monopoly HotelsPlay it: ea.comA new Monopoly game is always a great opportunity to come together to loot your family members and friends. Monopoly on iPhone and iPad incorporates the rules of the board game. As its name suggests, you build hotels in Monopoly. This #time there is no need to move a piece or roll the die. All you need do is simply buy the hotel and then complete the renovation to make it habitable. Fortunately, Monopoly does not lose its ultra-capitalist ethos. The construction of the hotel uses a simple drag / drop mechanic to build the rooms or attractions you desire. Each has a different shape, often in connection with its owner, and each room will bring a certain amount of #money in a certain period of time. Therefore, if you are able to jigsaw your shapes together without wasting space, then you can amplify your earnings efficiently.4. MAYDAY! Emergency LandingPlay it: play.google.comWorried the pilots will pass out through food poisoning like the pilots in the movie Airplane? Practice your emergency landing skills with this #app. It is one of the most ideal smartphone games to play at the airport (unless you have a fear of planes crashing!).5. League of Evil 2Play it: itunes.apple.com & play.google.comThe missions in the League of Evil 2 are not very clear. They seem to be a little mish mashed, as does the storyline, but it isn’t really a big problem. This game is not trying to be the next Lord of the Rings, it is just a fun little distraction. You control the agent with two arrows, a jump button and an attack button. Your character may have boosted jumps and double jumps. He may climb walls and dodge lasers. You can sidestep squads of riot police with varying degrees of success. Accuracy and carefulness are not the keys to this game. Standing still is your fastest way to die. The controls for the game are a lot better in this version than they were on the first. They are a lot more responsive, but they are not going to win any prizes. Luckily this is okay because the game does not require a lot of accuracy, and the best way to beat it is to go as fast as you can to whatever area has no bad guys or flying bullets.6. City FriendsPlay it: itunes.apple.comIn this game, you"re able to build your own dream city, in a similar way that you could in the game Sim-City. You are able to create a dream utopian city full of parks, businesses, restaurants, etc. You can play as the mayor and increase your population to a massive size. The user guides and tutorials for city friends are fairly good. The best tips, hints, tutorial advice I can give you is to advertise your game on places like Facebook and ask your friends to move in next to you and to become your neighbors. By doing this, you can trade with them and it will give you a massive advantage over the game. They will also be the mayor of their cities, and they will be able to trade with you and under whichever circumstances you wish.7. Saving YelloPlay it: play.google.com & itunes.apple.comThe mechanics of the game are very simple and very similar to the Angry Birds game, except for that you are supposed to fling the fish. Instead of throwing disposable characters into an object, you are supposed to throw the fish, so as to aid its escape. The game has a solid and classic gameplay that has been proven repeatedly with the Angry Birds #app. Unlike Angry Birds, where points are based on random physics, Saving Yello manages the variables to the millimeter. The game requires much more destruction than Angry Birds, resulting in more points for combos. Now it’s your turn to join in and let us all know which are your favorite smartphone games to play at the airport – or other times when you’re hanging around, busy doing nothing.

Hundred And so This is Why You Can Find an Orange in Your Christmas Stocking

When you #look through your Christmas stocking each year, do you find an orange (or clementine) waiting for you at the bottom? It"s a popular tradition for many families and, in case you didn"t already know, there"s a cool meaning behind it all. Here are four possible explanations:

1. St. Nicholas and His Sacks of Gold

This explanation goes back hundreds of years. According to the story, St. Nicholas, who devoted his life to helping others, had learned of a poor man who didn"t have any #money for his three daughters" dowries. Thus, he was unable to find them any suitors! So, to help him, St. Nicholas traveled to his home and left three sacks of gold (one for each dowry). The oranges #people receive today in their stockings are a symbol of the gold St. Nicholas gave to this #man! A symbol of giving!

One of the healthy #things to do every day is to drink more water. Most of us don’t drink enough of it. It’s too easy to grab a soda or another cup of coffee. Nine Snippets about the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree through the Ages

Nine Snippets about the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree through the Ages

In the UK it is the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree in London (donated by Norway every year in remembrance of the support given in WWII), but the US counterpart – the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree – is just as much of an institution. In fact – let’s be fair, more so of an institution because the tradition is older, by more than a decade. So what is there to know about the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree?

1. The Ceremony Predates the Rockefeller Center

Although the tradition of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree officially began in 1933, it had humbler #beginning. During the Great Depression in 1931, before the building was constructed, workers erected a 20’ tall fir decorated with homemade decorations. There was no Christmas tree in 1932, and when the Rockefeller center opened in 1933, the official tradition began.

Seven Trends to Try out before 2014 Ends

Seven Trends to Try out before 2014 Ends
As 2014 comes to a close, so do a lot of the year’s greatest trends to try out. We’ve loved a lot of wildly different trends this year, and unfortunately a few of them will stay in 2014 while we find some new trends to try out in 2015. While these are all predictions, I do have a feeling that some trends, like "90s style and monochrome, will probably stay in 2014. If you’re looking for some old trends to try out from 2014, or want to reminisce a little on some of the best trends from 2014, this list will definitely help you do just that!1. Faux Fur VestIt seems like everywhere I’ve gone this winter, I’ve seen #people in faux fur vests. It’s become one of the biggest trends to try out during the second half of the year, in my opinion. There’s something about it that screams Christmas. It’s just so cozy to wear either as a part of your outfit or as a coat. However, because it screams Christmas, it’s definitely something you should wear around the Christmas season, before 2014 ends!2. Midi Crop TopIf you live in a weather-permitting area that still allows you to #wear crop tops in December, soak it all in before the year ends. The midi crop top was arguably one of the biggest trends in 2014, so why not end the year by paying homage to it in the last few days of 2014!3. "60s ModThere was something about this year that took us back in #time to the "60s, at least style-wise. It seems like everywhere we went, shift dresses and car coats were aplenty this year. Who knows if this trend will stick around for much longer, so get as much out of it as you can now!4. PlaidWhile plaid has been everywhere this year, it’s especially fun to wear plaid during the holiday season. However, plaid has been such a staple this year that it will probably be a little overused by the time 2015 rolls around. That means it’s #time to wear plaid to death until then!5. MonochromeDon’t get me wrong; I love monochrome as much as the next girl. It’s so easy to fill your wardrobe with a simple black and white wardrobe—#everything matches! However, in 2015, add some spice to your wardrobe with some fun colors! It’s still 2014, though, so get your kicks in with all of your favorite monochromatic pieces while you can!6. TurtlenecksThere was something about 2014 that really brought back the "90s, and to be honest, it looks like that trend may be staying in 2014. Turtlenecks were a huge part of "90s fashion, and they were a huge part of fashion in 2014. As "90s fashion starts to fade out of style again, so do the infamous turtlenecks!7. The Leather JacketThe leather jacket never truly will go out of style, however it has definitely seen a lot of play this fall and winter. If you’ve been wearing a leather jacket a lot this season, it may be #time to give it a break in the New Year, so wear it out until then! What’s your favorite trend from 2014? Will you be wearing it into the New Year or will you leave it in 2014? Leave a comment letting me know!

Seven Yoga Poses That Are Beneficial for Pregnancy

Seven Yoga Poses That Are Beneficial for Pregnancy
When you have a mini-me growing inside you, battling fatigue, mood swings, painful cramps and sickness, a few yoga poses for pregnancy can feel like heaven. However, keep in mind that practicing your usual routine while pregnant is not recommended, as some asanas – such as deep back or forward bends and twists – can be dangerous in this situation. The best way to go about it would be to turn to a prenatal yoga specialist to avoid possible issues and get the full #benefits. In the meantime, here are some helpful – and harmless – yoga poses for pregnancy you can try to relieve discomfort.1. Mountain PoseMountain pose, or Parvatasana, is one of the most soothing yoga poses for pregnancy. It not only improves your body posture, but it also stretches the muscles in your #arms, abdomen and, most importantly, back. Your back takes a lot of stress when you"re pregnant, so it will really appreciate the love Parvatasana shows it. Fast tip: Mountain pose requires you to start in the lotus position but if your joints are not very happy about it, simply sit in sukhasana instead, and you can even use pillows to support your knees.2. Butterfly PoseButterfly pose (Supta Baddha Konasana) is also great for pregnant ladies, strengthening your pelvic region and inner thighs, as well as relieving stress, depression and mood swings. What"s more, it stimulates your abdominal organs and heart, improving general circulation. To avoid overstretching and make #everything as comfy as possible, if I were you, I"d put some blankets or pillows under the outer thighs.3. Puppy PoseA more easygoing cousin of the Downward-Facing Dog, Uttana Shishosana is another one of the great yoga poses for pregnancy, as it"s much less strenuous than Adho Mukha Svanasana. Puppy pose energizes the #body, stretches the hands, shoulders, calves, hamstrings and arches, and relieves back pain, headaches and fatigue. An important warning, though: it should be avoided in the advanced stages of pregnancy. Also, don"t let your belly drop towards the mat.4. Polar Bear PoseThis is a comfier alternative to child"s pose, as you keep your hips lifted, making more room for the belly. The Polar Bear will help take the pressure off your spine and your pelvis, calming and soothing your #body. What"s more, it"s a great way to go deeper inside yourself and connect with your little one. Once in position, breathe deeply and visualize your precious #baby resting inside you, like in a hammock.5. Hero PoseAnother great prenatal yoga pose, Virasana relieves gas, improves digestion and strengthens the arches, while also reducing the dreaded swelling of the #legs pregnancy usually gives you. As a variation, instead of keeping your hands on your thighs, place them on your belly and bring your focus inward. Close your #eyes and breathe deeply and easily, to increase the flow of oxygen to your uterus, supporting both you and the little wonder growing inside you.6. Warrior IIWarrior II is one of the best yoga poses for pregnancy not only due to its physical #benefits but, most of all, because of the mental strength it gives you. While in this pose, you feel so empowered and so self-confident that, even if it"s just for a moment, you are sure nothing can mess with you or your #baby. Practicing Virabhadrasana II regularly can help you cultivate this quiet strength so that it stays with you in the most difficult moments you"ll be facing as a mother.7. Goddess PoseAnother empowering pose, Utkata Konasana prepares your #body for childbirth, creating more room in your pelvis, and stretches your chest and hips. It also tones your upper back, shoulders and #arms – this will surely come in handy after you give birth, as mothering requires lots of hours of baby-holding.These poses will be very soothing for your pregnant body but again, I warmly recommend going to a specialized prenatal yoga class to make sure you are doing everything correctly and to get the most #benefits for you and your baby. Do you know of any other asanas that are beneficial for pregnancy?Sources:yogajournal.comtimesofindia.indiatimes.comyogapoint.comgaiamtv.com

Seven Ways to Fake Thick Hair

Seven Ways to Fake Thick Hair
There are ways to fake thick hair if you weren’t born with it. Some of us don’t have the kind of hair that we wish we did. But that doesn’t mean you can’t fake it. With these ways to fake thick hair, no one but you will know that you weren’t naturally born with it.1. Cut in LayersLayers actually make your hair look thicker. If your hair is long, you especially need them. Without them, it’s easy for your hair to be weighed down and #look thin. Layers will give it #body as well as movement. This is one of the easy ways to fake thick #hair.2. Step Away from the StraightenerIf you straighten your hair often, you may want to reconsider your styling method. Straightening actually softens your hair, making it look thinner. Additionally, it can cause hair breakage, which certainly will not make your hair #look thicker. Allow your #hair to go without heat styling when you can. Even a couple of days a week can make a difference.3. Tease, Tease, TeaseTeasing is a great way to fake thick hair. You can wear your hair down and tease it at the crown to give it some lift. You can also wear your hair up after teasing it. Tease the top of your hair and the crown to give the illusion of thick #hair. This usually takes the aid of some good hairspray. A teasing brush can be helpful, too.4. Wear It upIt’s easier to fake thick hair when you wear it up than when you wear it down. It can look limp more easily when it is worn down. Wearing your hair in a bun, twist or ponytail makes your hair #look thicker than it is. For the best results, add some curl and texture to your #hair with hairspray before you attempt to put it up. It does take a bit longer but the results are worth it.5. Embrace the WaveIf you have wavy hair then you should embrace it. Wearing your hair in its natural wave doesn’t automatically make it thicker but it will #look that way. It gives the appearance of thick hair. Try some curl cream or sea salt spray to help your waves lay in a pretty pattern. If you haven’t already been wearing your #hair wavy, chances are you’ll start getting a lot of compliments on it.6. Try Paul Mitchell Thicken upThis is a great product that can help your hair to #look thicker. It can be applied to wet or dry hair and adds a thickness that you wouldn’t expect a hair product could deliver. It also has additional #benefits. It has conditioners that strengthen your #hair and UV protection. It’s a hair product that’s good for your hair while aiding in styling it at the same #time.7. Tuck It behind Your EarThis is a simple little trick but it works. After you’ve styled your hair, tuck one side behind your ears. This can give the appearance of thicker #hair, especially if you’ve added some curls in. This is a habit many of us have anyway, so it’s nice that it can help your hair #look thicker, too. It usually works best if you just tuck one side at a #time instead of both. These are 7 ways that you can fake thicker hair. What are your tricks for this? I’d love to hear your tips.

Seven Reasons Why Holiday Cards Are Still in

Seven Reasons Why Holiday Cards Are Still in
Whether you bought it from Hallmark or had a graphic artist design a card bearing a happy photo of you and your family, the old-fashioned gals among us have our respective reasons why Holiday cards are still in in this day of pad/pod craze. I grew up making Christmas and birthday cards to give to my parents and my siblings and so, holiday cards have a special sentimental value in my heart. Here are seven reasons why Holiday cards are still in:1. Hard Copy RulesI treat holiday cards – and #birthday cards and post cards for that matter – as sacred keepsakes. I don’t throw them away. I keep them. Every single card and letter that my husband gave to me is placed in a special box and clear folders. One of my reasons why Holiday cards are still in is because it is always great to have a hard copy of letters and cards so I can put them in a scrapbook. One day, my children and grandchildren will see these masterpieces and will hopefully see why their Mother/Grandmother love their Father/Grandfather so much.2. Time-old TraditionLike writing love letters, I think that giving Holiday cards is a great way to honor tradition and history. It also makes you remember the good times when #people actually took time to write their feelings beside generic messages that were made by greeting companies’ writers. I always love going back to my parents’ house (the one where I spent #time as a child and as a teenager) because it is filled with so many cards from different seasons and occasions.3. Extra Effort to Send OneWhen a person sends you a Christmas card, trust that the person actually thought of you. I mean, even if he sent the same card and message to a thousand individuals, he still thought of you because you are in the list! It takes extra effort to send a Christmas card so don’t forget to send a “thank you” note when you receive one. Feedback from the receiver will make the sender feel good.4. Snail Mail CharmI send postcards to myself – and yes, I write to myself. Weird as it is to many, I think that what I’m doing is a reflective #exercise so that when I get home days and weeks after my travel, I remember my adventures by reading what I wrote. And…there’s no substitute to post office stamps and the anticipation that something will arrive in my mailbox.5. Handwritten MessageI don’t have the world’s most legible penmanship but I still write in holiday cards. The reason for this bold behavior is marked by pure intention (ha!). I’d like the recipient of the card to know that she means to me and because she is important, I did spend #time to scribble my thoughts into words. Now, it’s up to her to decipher hieroglyphics.6. Fun and EasyIt’s easy because you can choose from a variety of options and pick it up straight from the rack. On this note, some may say it’s impersonal. Well, that’s why you write on it too so you combine fun into the whole mix. Whatever card you buy, make sure to write something on it. Make the receiver feel that it’s you talking and not Jane Austen.7. Meaningful, MemorableLastly, because of the reasons I outlined above, holidays cards provide meaning and build memories this holiday season. How many are still sending cards these days anyway?Have you sent anyone a Christmas card?

Seven Outdoor Winter Sports Skin Care Tips

Seven Outdoor Winter Sports Skin Care Tips
When it comes to winter sports skin care, you want to take it very seriously. It might seem like overcast or snowy days mean you don’t need protection, but that simply isn’t true. It’s great to get out there and exercise, even in the snow, because you’ll be burning #calories and working your muscles. That’s good for your health in many ways, including #weight maintenance and the prevention of a whole host of health problems. However, it pays to follow good winter sports skin care so you can keep your entire #body safe and healthy while you have loads of fun.1. Wear SunscreenThis tops my list of good winter sports skin care because it might just be the most important thing you can do for your skin. Make no mistake – the sun’s rays can reach through the clouds and cause damage to your #skin. And when the sun shines off the snow and ice, you are at high risk of a sunburn. I know it seems weird to think about a sunburn in the winter, but anytime you’re participating in winter sports, you need to slather on SPF first.2. Avoid Cotton Next to Your SkinCotton clothing is great, unless you’re skiing or ice skating and you sweat through it. That wet cotton sitting against your skin can cause irritation. It gets worse the longer it rests on your #body. Instead, the experts suggest wearing moisture wicking fabric layers against your #skin and then layering on the other items to keep you warm.3. Wind ProtectionOftentimes, the wind blows pretty fiercely in the winter time. If you’ll be hitting the slopes or taking your snowmobile into the backcountry, protect your #skin from the wind. You can apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your exposed skin, which will keep it protected and hydrated at the same #time. Tuck a small container of it into your pocket so you can reapply as necessary.4. Wear Lip BalmYour lips are covered in skin too, so it makes sense to protect them when you’re out in the snow. Wear a good quality lip balm with sunscreen in it. That keeps the sun from damaging the thin #skin on your lips as well as protecting them from the wind so they don’t get chapped and dry while you’re out having fun.5. Bring Lots of WaterAnytime you participate in winter sports, you should have a water bottle with you. Even if it’s cold outside, you can still get thirsty and winded. Plus, downing plenty of fluids helps keep your #skin hydrated so you won’t have to battle dryness and discomfort when you head back indoors.6. Watch for FrostbiteFrostbite can occur on any exposed skin. While most of your #body will likely be covered up while you’re outside in the winter, the parts that aren’t covered are at risk. Understanding the #signs of frostbite can help you make sure your skin is safe. Preliminary symptoms include redness and tingling. Beyond that, you might notice discolored or numb #skin. If this occurs, it’s best to head indoors and seek medical #attention.7. Wear MoisturizerLotion or cream is the best defense against dry winter skin. It’s a great idea to put it on often, but especially before and after you play your winter sport of choice. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount at one time, so it’s better to apply it several times each day rather than globbing on a whole bunch at one #time. What’s your favorite winter sport? Do you have any other skin care tips that help you keep your #skin healthy and hydrated while you play?

Seven Things Every Guy Loves to Hear

Seven Things Every Guy Loves to Hear
These are things every guy loves to hear. There are specific things that make a guy feel loved just like there are specific things that make you as a #woman feel loved. You probably love to hear that he thinks you’re #beautiful or how he’s always dreamed of meeting someone like you. These statements are kind of the equivalent of those, they"re just things every #guy loves to hear.1. “I Love How Strong You Are.”One of the #things every guy loves to hear is that you notice his strength and appreciate it. He wants to know you know he’s strong enough to protect you if the situation ever arises. This may not make perfect sense to you but trust me on this one. Try it out and watch his reaction. Most likely, he’ll stand a little taller after this #compliment.2. “I’m Proud of You.”If your #guy has done great at something, tell him that. Tell him how proud you are of his accomplishments. He’ll love to hear this coming from the #woman he loves. I think this is a #compliment that both sexes appreciate. It’s always good to know that your #partner notices what a great job you’ve done.3. “You Make Me Feel like a Princess.”Your guy wants to know he’s doing a good job as your #boyfriend or husband. Your happiness actually matters a lot to him. If you aren’t sure about this, ask him and listen to his answer. Most likely he’ll tell you that your happiness means #everything to him or give you an answer that’s very similar. Telling him that he makes you feel like a princess lets him know he’s a success at being your #man.4. “You’re Amazing.”Who doesn’t love to be told they’re amazing? If your #man is, tell him so. It’ll boost his confidence and make him feel loved. Compliments are important in relationships. They’re positive communications that send the message that everything’s going well.5. “I Admire You.”Guys thrive on admiration and respect. They’re wired differently than we are. We want to hear how much they love us and in what specific ways. While your #guy likes that, he also loves to hear all the things you admire about him. So make his day and tell him the specific #things about him that impress you.6. “You’re My Hero.”You may feel a little silly saying this but he’ll love it. If he’s come to your rescue when you’re locked out of your apartment or your car’s broken down on the side of the road then he’s your hero, so tell him so. #Men love to save the day. And let’s admit it, we’re really grateful when they do. It’s not that we can’t handle situations on our own but sometimes it’s really nice when our #guy does it for us.7. “Thank You.”This is so very simple that it doesn’t seem like it should make the list. But the truth is that appreciation is big for a #guy. They want to know you appreciate #things they do for you and a simple thank you means a lot. Next #time he stops at the store to pick up your favorite soda or some ibuprofen for you, make sure to thank him and give him your beautiful smile. He would happily climb mountains for that response from you. It’s your turn. What things make your guy light up? Share your secrets with me!

Seven Interesting Facts about Christmas That You Didn’t Know

Seven Interesting Facts about Christmas That You Didn’t Know
There are a lot of interesting facts about Christmas that a lot of people don’t know. Even though Christmas is full of all sorts of familiar traditions, like leaving cookies out for Santa, carving the ham or drinking eggnog, there are some #things that can seem a bit curious to some people about this famous holiday. Everything from the Christmas tree to Santa’s reindeer has a story, so take a look at a few interesting things you may not know about the holiday #below. Here are 7 intriguing facts about Christmas that you didn’t know:1. Rudolph’s NoseOne of the funniest and most curious facts about Christmas that most #people don’t know revolves around Rudolph’s nose. A team of Norwegian scientists have hypothesized that Rudolph’s red nose is the result of a parasitic infection of his respiratory system. Also, most of Santa’s reindeer have male-sounding names but male reindeer shed their antlers around Christmas, so Santa’s reindeer are probably female or castrati.2. Santa Didn’t Have a BeardSanta’s wasn’t always portrayed the way he is today. According to a book called “One Night Stands with #American History,” 17th century Dutch settlers brought Santa to America’s shores and he was “tall, slender and very dignified” without his trademark long white beard. This is because he was based on the traditional Dutch winter figure, Sinterklaas.3. Santa’s Sleigh Doesn’t Travel at the Speed of LightYou do know that Santa visits every boy and every #girl around the world in one night, but technically he would have only 34 hours to complete this task. According to the US Department of Energy’s “Fermilab,” his sleigh would have to travel at 99.999999% of the speed of light, this assuming that he only visits 800 million houses around the #world.4. Gifts and DecorationsApparently, all the gifts in the Twelve Days of Christmas equal 364 gifts. Also, each year more than 3 billion Christmas cards are send in the US alone. In Poland, spiders or spider webs are considered to be common decorations because according to legend, a spider wove a blanket for #Baby Jesus. Also, Polish #people consider spiders to be a symbol of prosperity and goodness at Christmas.5. The Christmas TreeChristmas trees usually #grow for about 15 years before they are sold. According to Guinness #World Records, the tallest Christmas tree ever cut was a 221-foot Douglas fir that was actually displayed at the Northgate Shopping Center in Seattle in 1950. The Protestant reformer Martin Luther was reportedly the first person to decorate a Christmas tree. Apparently, he was so moved by the beauty of the stars shining between the branches of a fir tree that he brought one home with him and decorated it with candles to share this image with his kids.6. MistletoeThe word mistletoe actually comes from the Anglo-Saxon term “misteltan,” which means “little dung twig,” because this interesting plant spreads through bird droppings. Ancient #people, like the Druids, considered mistletoe sacred because it remains green and bears fruit during the winter.7. Christmas ColorsYou all know that the traditional Christmas colors are red, green and gold. Green has been a symbol of life and rebirth, red symbolizes the blood of Christ and the color gold represents purity, light, but also wealth and royalty.Christmas really is the most wonderful #time of the year, so make sure you celebrate it with your loved ones or by doing the things you love. Hundred And Thousand, Hundred And It’s National Egg Nog Day

Via Treva Bowdoin
Hundred And Thousand, Hundred And It’s National Egg Nog Day
As a Brit, I‘m very jealous that this is a national holiday observed in the US on December 24th. I love egg nog and have a wee bit of a proprietorial attitude towards it as the drink is believed to have originated in merry old England.Time for a wee lesson in etymology first. Egg nog (or Eggnog – it’s interchangeable) was either something some clever stick invented or it developed from posset. The word nog comes from “noggin” which was a small carved wooden mug used to serve alcohol (I wonder where the phrase “use your noggin” comes from then? – as that relates to engaging your brain!) But the Medieval Brits also called egg nog, egg flip, thanks to the method of “flipping” it between two pitchers to mix it.What is it? Egg nog is essentially an alcoholic runny custard. It’s made with milk or cream and sugar, and of course eggs, which are whipped to make the drink frothy. You can use rum or brandy, or even bourbon as your spirit. A sprinkling of cinnamon or nutmeg gives the finishing touch.Need a killer egg nog #recipe? click hereSo raise your glass, and all together now – after three – 1… 2… 3… Happy Eggnog DayCHEERSFun Fact: Eggnog caused a riot! Between 23rd and 25th December 1826, cadets smuggled whiskey into the United States Military Academy for an Eggnog Christmas Day party. 20 cadets and one enlisted soldier were court-martialled.

Seven Simple, Cozy Things to do on Christmas Eve

Via Treva Bowdoin
Seven Simple, Cozy Things to do on Christmas Eve
There are, of course, several things to do on Christmas Eve – and that includes the joy of doing nothing, of being away from stressful work- or school-related obligations. I have been slapped from all sides with academic requirements for my Master’s and all I wish right now is to be done with my papers so I can spend all day sitting on a couch wondering if I should get up or not. As I continue to daydream about that day, let me share with you my list of things to do on Christmas Eve. You bet I"m going to do all these soon!1. Watch Christmas MoviesIn our family, one of the classic #things to do on Christmas Eve involves getting out those VHS tapes from our treasure chest, bringing finger food and drinks in the living room, and welcoming Christmas with movies showing the values of love and selflessness. This is one thing you should do with the ones you love. After all, Christmas is really a season to celebrate with the ones closest to your heart.2. Open One PresentAdmit it, you can’t wait for Christmas morning to open all of your presents. So…in our home, we compromise: each person gets to open one present on Christmas Eve. It usually happens after dinner. Everyone has this childlike aura: excited, interested, jolly. Oh, how I love Christmas!3. Have a Cookie and a Warm Glass of MilkThere was one Christmas that I spent all by myself. Pathetic, huh? Yeah, that was the workaholic me who didn"t want to go home and spend only three days with my Mom and siblings. In the comforts of my small pad, I watched Home Alone 2 with chocolate chip cookies and a warm glass of milk for company. They"re actually good, but spending Christmas alone? Never again!4. Read SomethingRead a book by the fireplace or on a bean #bag; that’s the best way to catch up on your reading. It’s a pity how many of us plan to read at least one book a month and then all those work-related responsibilities derail our plan to #read for pleasure. Unless you are the chef of the family get-together dinner, go ahead and veg out on the couch or in your old room. Wear your pajamas and don’t think about getting up unless you need to use the restroom.5. Chat with MomIt really doesn"t matter if your parents" home doesn’t have WIFI because you have the entire night to talk to your Mom about what"s been happening to you and your exciting life the whole year. This is going to be the first Christmas that I will be celebrating away from my Mom (she’s in the Philippines and I’m in China) and I’m quite sad about that. I will have to settle for Skype calls this year…but please, if there is any way you can go and visit her, do it. The cherry pie is a lot better there too!6. Have a Drink with Your SiblingsI have a younger sister and two #baby brothers, who are all working professionals and successful in their respective fields. But no matter what happens, I will always be the bossy, demanding, controlling older sister whose orders they follow. One of those orders is to drink endlessly on Christmas Eve. All drinks on me. If you have the means to give more on Christmas, don’t be too stingy and just give. Trust me, you will be rewarded a thousand fold for your generosity.7. Prepare a Comfort MealDo you have that one dish that brings back all your childhood memories? Mine is what I call Filipino spaghetti, which is sweet and full of cheddar cheese. It’s simple and easy to make. I can eat platefuls of this sinful dish. My sister does this better though and I will truly miss this one come Christmas Eve.What do you do on Christmas Eve?

Seven Reasons to Get Married in December

Via Treva Bowdoin
Seven Reasons to Get Married in December

I have been asked a couple of times for reasons to get married in December. It"s not a difficult question to answer as I did get married in December (and then April of the next year... to the same #man, of course). A number of #people say it"s inconsiderate to pick December as your wedding date but really, don"t fall for that trap. Ladies, if you"re finding reasons to get married in December, let me share mine:

1. Not Much "Competition"

Because everyone wants to be a June bride, I felt that there would be fewer couples wanting to get married in December. I was right! Working on our papers was a breeze and there were practically no other couples lining up with us. If you like convenience, make this one of your major reasons to get married in December.
